As many of you know, I worked for two years to bring a talented Rwandan musician, Sophie Nzayisenga, to New York City in October 2013 to record, perform, and conduct educational programming with me and my colleagues, William Parker and Tim Keiper. Unfortunately due to disastrous issues obtaining Sophie’s visa, our plans were derailed.
I am now thinking about trying again. Sophie is still excited and happy to give it a try. In April and May of 2014, Rwanda will be commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Genocide Against the Tutsi, and it’s possible that we can have Sophie here to take part in New York events on that theme, in addition to our original plans.
Unfortunately, our previous attempt to bring Sophie here resulted in a financial crisis from which we are still recovering, so I need to ask for some solid favors of you in order to make this happen. If we can raise $5,000 by the beginning of the new year, that will be sufficient for us to get started, and we will still have more fundraising on our plate as the project progresses. Please remember that all donations are tax-deductible in the USA. You can donate by credit card or check at our website.
Many thanks, and a Joyous Holiday Season to All!Jeremy
